I got a Woolmakers Bliss single-treadle wheel for Christmas!

I spun up 2oz of merino and am now spinning 2oz of Corriedale dyed by Woolverine Fibers. Sadly, they don't seem to be dying fibre any more! Next up is a full pound of silver-gray Corriedale (I have two bags for a total of 16oz. -- which is a pound! 8oz. is a half-pound!)

1. I'm watching Call The Midwife (a BBC show; there's five seasons available on Netflix), which is set in the East End of London in the 1950s and follows the career of a young midwife, her three coworkers, and the nuns of Nonnatus House where they live (who are also nurses and midwives). I also recently watched Netflix' new show, The Crown, which is about Queen Elizabeth II. I highly recommend both shows!

2. I saw Hamilton (in Chicago). Y'all. It was AMAZING. The music is, of course, incredible, and the choreography, staging, and dancing were so good. If you are wondering whether or not it's worth seeing the musical live after listening non-stop to the original cast recording -- YES. Yes, it is.

Sewing!:
My next sewing project will be the Moss Skirt designed by Grainline Studio. I'll be sewing it out of one of the Cotton + Steel / Rifle Paper Co. collaboration fabrics. I realized I didn't mention the name of my local fabric shop -- it's Oak Fabrics, and they are lovely.

Book:
The Girl on the Train, by Paula Hawkins. (I also mentioned Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn; I read it, but preferred Sharp Objects. Her third book is Dark Places, which I have not read. I also also mentioned Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie mysteries, which start with Case Histories, and which I loved.)

Other Miscellaneous Mentions:
1. I am obsessed with The West Wing right now. I know political television dramas aren't everyone's cup of tea (and the US election is providing far too much political drama without any help at all), but if you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it.

2. The sweater pattern I was talking about is indeed called Wolf River. It's designed by Melissa Schaschwary and is available for $6 on Ravelry. Fluph Shop and Louise Scollay of Knit British hosted the #bigwiprip on Instagram, which inspired my frogging of my Campside shawl.

3. The yarn shop in Philadelphia that I visited last year and where I got the yarn that is now being knit into a Lush cardigan is indeed called Loop. It's a lovely shop! So is Looped Yarn Works in DC, and so is Loop in London.

4. If you're curious, the baby sweater I knit is the Ella Funt pattern (link to my project page, which links to the pattern). As I noted on Ravelry, and as a lot of others noted, the sweater runs BIG. I think the baby ended up wearing it when she was 3. Oops! (Also, in scrolling back through my projects, I realized I had totally forgotten about another baby cardigan -- the Striped Smock Top.)

1. If any newer viewers are interested in the saga of the green & cream socks, you can view my project page here (I used cream for the heels and toes only, not the cuffs). I went through a false start with a pattern, but they appeared as a WIP in their vanilla form in Episode Seven (which is named after them, in fact!).

2. While I was knitting the Fair Isle Flower Socks, I was watching Peaky Blinders. It's available on Netflix in the US. It is an excellent show, though with swearing, violence, and other adult content it is not child-friendly. It takes place in Birmingham in the 1920s and follows the escapades of the Shelby family, who are in charge of the Peaky Blinders gang. The Peaky Blinders (so-called for the razor blades sewn into the peaks of their flat caps) were a real gang, but the show is only loosely based on them. Cillian Murphy is excellent as Tommy Shelby, though Helen McCrory as Aunt Polly really steals the show for me. It's kind of an anti-Downton Abbey, if you will.

1. I am thinking of casting on a 3 Color Cashmere Shawl, designed by Joji Locatelli. I have a skein of madelinetosh tosh merino light in the "Modern Fair Isle" colorway, and two skeins of Kismet Fiber Arts Soul in the "Lucky Penny" and "Juniper" colorways.

2. My next spinning project will be a 4oz braid of Malabrigo Nube in the Piedras colorway.

3. I'm also considering several plans for a hap. I was right; they are from Shetland. There are some good images on Gudrun Johnston's website. It will probably take me a while to cast on, and I may wait until Kate Davies' new hap book is released.

1. The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, TX, is really delightful. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend going! My favorite painting in their permanent collection is "The Cardsharps," by Caravaggio. The special Caillebotte exhibit was a real treat, too. Here's the "Floor Planers" painting that started Caillebotte's career. The "Paris Street, Rainy Day" painting, which is normally at the Art Institute of Chicago, was on display in this exhibit. Previously, the exhibit was on display at the National Gallery of Art in DC; they have a slideshow of some of the paintings from the exhibit, including "The Boulevard Seen From Above," which is the painting I loved with the ginkgo tree. And, here's a bit of information about the Castiglione exhibit.

2. The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University had a really neat exhibit, "Treasures from the House of Alba: 500 Years of Art and Collecting" about a prominent Spanish aristocratic family and their art collecting.

3. For those curious about Mary Beard's blog, "A Don's Life," it is online here (it's for the Times Literary Supplement). Her Twitter handle is @wmarybeard. If anyone is curious about 1453 as an "end date" for the Roman Empire, the Wikipedia article is rather good -- the capitol city of the Eastern Roman Empire, Constantinople, fell to the Ottomans.

1. I mentioned the BeeCount app, which is the app I've used for counting rows. It is basic, but I really like it. 2. If you're interested in learning about Josephus the Historian (37-c. 100 AD), the Wikipedia page is a pretty good starting place. He was Jewish, as I mentioned, and was captured by the Romans. In exchange for his life, he wrote for Vespasian -- when Vespasian became emperor, he granted Josephus his freedom.
